The sluggish, heavily-vegetated inland waters of Kerala, India.

What is the ideal number to keep together?
Although males are boisterous between each other it is still advised to keep at least 6 to reduce shyness and encourage natural behaviours.

What water conditions do they require?
A pH range of 6.8 – 8.0 and a temperature of 22 – 28°C.

What should you feed them?
An Omnivorous species, will happily feed on a range of pellets and sinking foods but should be supplemented with frozen foods.

How compatible are they with other fish?
Not suited for general Community. Caution should be advised as they can nip fins of slow moving species.

Can they be bred in captivity?
Unlike other Puffers this species has been bred by the hobbyist. Recommended reports suggest breeding in a harem of 1 male and multiple females as rival males have been known to fight excessively.
